Product Overview

Just in from our friends at Collings. This is a DS2H 12 fret Dreadnaught with a stunning dark sunburst finish. The 12 fret body offers a bigger bass boom than a 14 fret dread while maintaining the balance and clarity that Collings is known for.

1-3/4” narrower nut option.

This is the original 12-fret dreadnought shape, first designed as an oversized Hawaiian guitar almost a century ago. We’ve retained the shape and wide neck with slotted headstock from that bygone era, but our DS models are thoroughly modern guitars with a unique sound all their own.

The longer body with the bridge closer to the center of the lower bout delivers an open, airy tone with smoothness and warmth not typically found in modern 14-fret dreadnoughts. Whether flatpicked or played fingerstyle, these guitars have lots of headroom and the wide dynamic range invites everything from mellow accompaniment to biting leads.

DS1 vs DS2H vs DS3

While all three models share the same body dimensions, key differences are outlined below.

  • Our 1-style (DS1) features Honduran mahogany back and sides with tortoise body binding and butt wedge, b/w/b/w top purfling, a walnut backstrip, dot fingerboard inlays, and a simpler 1-style rosette.
  • Our 2-style (DS2H) features East Indian rosewood back and sides with ivoroid body binding and butt wedge, herringbone top purfling, a “zipper” backstrip, diamonds and squares fingerboard inlays, and a more intricate 2-style rosette.
  • Our 3-style (DS3) features East Indian rosewood back and sides with ivoroid body/fingerboard/peghead binding and butt wedge, no herringbone top purfling, a “chevron” backstrip, no fingerboard inlays, and an abalone rosette.
