Keeping It Local: How Edmond Music Shapes Our Community

Edmond Music a store that I have had connections with since I was a kid. Growing up in Edmond nearly my entire life, this store was the primary supplier for all my musical needs. I bought my first guitar from Edmond Music when I was 9 years old, and every guitar I have purchased since then has been acquired through this store. As I shopped at the store over the years, I began to develop a relationship with Scott and Susan Starns, the owners of the business. I remember one instance where Scott knew I was looking for a pedalboard but was confined to the restraints of a college student’s budget. After coming in the store several times and having no luck finding anything within my price range, I received a call from Scott saying he had just received a used board that would be perfect for me. What I remember specifically about that experience wasn’t the piece of gear that I got, but the story of how I got it. I remember how surprised I was that Scott remembered my name, the equipment I needed, and how I was the first person he thought to call. What is typically seen as a simple over-the-counter transaction at other stores became a personalized experience through my local music store.

What I began to learn as I eventually transitioned from customer to employee at Edmond Music was that my story was not an isolated event. The staff at this store work hard to help any local musician find the best fit for their specific needs at every turn. Behind every interaction is an opportunity to make new connections within the community of Edmond. This pursuit of investment within our city started all the way back in 1974 and has led to Edmond Music being selected as the winner of the Edmond Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year Award in 2023. We at Edmond Music are honored to receive this award, as we feel like it is a special moment in our history. To be recognized by the city of Edmond was not only humbling for our store, but it was also a landmark victory for local music in Oklahoma. In a world where online shopping with three-day shipping is king, having a steady stream of dedicated customers and friends of our store that would rather shop from their local music store shows the strength of our community. When you shop local, you are not just another order. You are a valued member of our community. Edmond Music aims to cultivate passion and nourish the talents of our neighbors by creating intentional relationships with new people every day.
